By Tom Stanton Jul 26, 2023 | 12:22 PM

New UNL Chancellor Rodney Bennett says there will be no classes on August 30th for the first ever Nebraska Volleyball Day at Memorial Stadium.  Bennett has declared it an instructional continuity day.

The Nebraska volleyball program will host a doubleheader followed by a concert by country artist Scotty McCreery. The University of Nebraska at Kearney will play Wayne State College in an exhibition match at 4:30 p.m. The Huskers will take on the University of Nebraska at Omaha at 7 p.m. Gates open at 3:30 p.m.

“This will be a historic day for UNL,” Bennett wrote in an email to the campus on Wednesday morning.  “It is an incredible opportunity to celebrate Nebraska’s rich volleyball tradition and to show the world how Husker Nation stands up in support of our student-athletes.”

With the expected influx of 91,000 fans, Chancellor Bennett announced academic spaces on City, East and Innovation campuses will be closed to all activities not connected directly to the events in Memorial Stadium and other critical functions that require in-person working.
