NDOT Reports 36 Traffic Fatalities in September

The Nebraska Department of Transport is reporting that 36 people were killed in traffic collisions on Nebraska’s roads in the month of September. The 36 deaths occurred over 30 crashes.

Three of the victims were pedestrians, six were motorcyclists, and one involved a train. One happened on the interstate, 24 on highways, and 11 on local roads.

Of the vehicle occupants, seven of the victims were wearing a seatbelt. Nine were not. It is unclear if seven others were. Of the 36 fatalities, 23 were in rural areas.

This year has seen higher numbers of fatal crashes and individuals killed. The per-year fatality average for 2018 to 2021 is 175. There have been 206 deaths this year. The years 2018 to 2021 also so an average of 154 fatal crashes per year in Nebraska. This year has seen 181.

The number of traffic deaths for September 2021 was 22.
