Lincoln ranks as the fourth-best city in the country for driving, according to a new report from personal-finance company WalletHub. WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities across 30 factors to determine where drivers can find the cheapest, smoothest and safest driving experience.
According to the report, Lincoln ranked especially well for traffic congestion, coming in second nationally for the annual number of hours the average auto commuter spends stuck in traffic. The city also ranked eighth for accident likelihood compared with the national average.
Other rankings were more mixed. Lincoln came in 24th for its rate of car thefts, 31st for auto-repair shops per capita, and 47th for average gas prices and auto-maintenance costs. Lincoln also ranked fourth for average parking rates.
WalletHub says Americans lose an average of $894 a year because of time spent in traffic. The report notes that driving conditions can vary significantly from city to city based on factors including congestion, gas prices, maintenance costs, parking and traffic safety.
