The Lincoln Children’s Zoo will wrap up its Brews at the Zoo season Friday night with a Fall Fest edition that may feel more like summer.
The 21-and-over event runs from 6 to 11 p.m. and features live music, local craft beer, cider and seltzers, with the entire zoo open to adults. “It’s kind of funny because it is our Fall Fest edition of Brews at the Zoo, so it might not feel weather-wise like fall, but we will definitely have all of the fall vibes,” Lincoln Children’s Zoo Communications Director Erin Lenz said. Those fall activities include fall-themed drinks, s’mores and a local vendor market offering items ranging from jewelry and candles to baked goods. The Moore Brothers Band will provide live music.
With extreme heat continuing in Lincoln, Lenz said the zoo will have air-conditioned spaces available for guests who need to cool down. The zoo’s play stream will also be available.
The heat could also affect which animals visitors see during the event. Lenz said each animal at the zoo has its own temperature protocols and thresholds, and animals are given the option to remain indoors during extreme heat. “You might see some of the animals that are spending more time in their pool, that might have some fun treats like bloodsicles or popsicles,” Lenz said. Animal encounters will continue during Brews at the Zoo but will feature animals that can safely be outside in the heat.
Lenz said the event also gives visitors an opportunity to support the zoo and other local organizations and businesses, including Nebraska craft beverage producers and local musicians.
