A Lincoln man is facing several charges after police say he forced a woman into a vehicle, assaulted her, then fled from officers before crashing into another vehicle Sunday afternoon. Lincoln Police were called to the area of 48th and Y streets just before 2 p.m. after witnesses reported seeing a man force a woman into a vehicle as she yelled for help.
Witnesses also reported seeing blood on the woman’s face and a child inside the vehicle. Officers located the vehicle near 48th and Pioneers Boulevard and attempted to stop it. Police say the suspect fled, leading officers on a pursuit.
The pursuit ended near 56th Street and Old Cheney Road when the suspect crashed into another vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody. The driver of the vehicle struck in the crash reported minor injuries. The woman was taken to a local hospital for injuries sustained during the assault and crash. The infant child was also taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Police identified the suspect as 26-year-old Steven Schroeder of Lincoln. He was booked into the Lancaster County Jail on charges of false imprisonment, domestic assault, child abuse, willful reckless driving and fleeing to avoid arrest.
