A missing 12-year-old Lincoln boy was found safe in Texas on Thursday and a woman suspected of taking the juvenile was also arrested. LPD Captain Todd Kocian says the boy was reported missing on June 26 after leaving home to visit a friend’s house and never returning.
LPD investigators learned that the boy had been seen near the People’s City Mission with a friend and the friend’s mother. Investigators later learned the woman had purchased three Greyhound bus tickets to Texarkana.
The U.S. Marshals arrested the woman at a park on Thursday and the missing boy was located with her. 49-year-old Tracy Riley was arrested for violation of custody and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
She is awaiting extradition to Nebraska. Investigators say the boy appeared in good health and was taken into protective custody and arrangements are being made to return him to Lincoln. “This is a great example of interagency cooperation leading to a successful resolution,” Kocian says.
