People’s City Mission Hosts 24-Hour Event to Highlight Homelessness

People’s City Mission is inviting the community to take part in its ninth annual Gimme Shelter event this week to raise awareness about homelessness in Lincoln. The 24-hour event begins at 9 a.m. Friday and continues through 9 a.m. Saturday outside the Hy-Vee at 84th and Holdrege Streets.

As part of the effort, People’s City Mission CEO Pastor Tom Barber will spend 24 hours without food, sleep, or shelter to highlight the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity.

Throughout the event, Mission staff, volunteers, and supporters will be on site sharing information about the organization’s services and encouraging community involvement. Organizers say the annual event serves as both an advocacy effort and a reminder of the ongoing need for support for Lincoln residents facing homelessness.
