A California man ended up in the Lancaster County Jail Friday afternoon following a drug bust on I-80 near Waverly. LSO Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the man was stopped for following too closely around noon.
He says a Nebraska State Patrol K-9 was brought in and detected the presence of drugs. “Deputies conducted a probable cause search and found 15 kilos of cocaine in two suitcases in the trunk.” Houchin says the drugs carried a big price tag.
“As packaged, it was worth about a half a million dollars,” Houchin says. “On the street, it was worth $2 million.” The 19-year-old driver was traveling from New York to California, which Houchin says is out of the ordinary.
“Usually the drugs go east and money comes west. This time the drugs were coming west.” Kanwal Singh was booked into the Lancaster County Jail for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
