Lincoln Police have arrested a man accused of stealing an SUV from a north Lincoln gas station and assaulting a woman. LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says officers were called just before 11:30 Tuesday night to the Casey’s near 27th Street and Superior after a 53-year-old Lincoln woman reported her vehicle stolen.
“It had been left running and unlocked with the keys inside as the driver, a 53-year-old Lincoln woman, went into the business,” Thomas says. When the woman came back out, her 2020 silver Honda CR-V valued at $15,000 was gone.
Officers quickly located the vehicle abandoned nearby and launched an investigation. Thomas says they identified 38-year-old Anthony Sandoval as the suspect. Investigators also determined Sandoval allegedly assaulted a woman known to him causing facial injuries. Thomas says the pair then took off in the vehicle.
Sandoval was later found hiding under a bridge near Cornhusker Highway and North 29th Street. He was arrested and booked into the Lancaster County Jail. He faces charges including theft of property valued at more than $5,000, driving under the influence or refusal with a prior offense, driving under suspension, and third-degree domestic assault.
The investigation remains ongoing.
