The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department has released more details in a Monday evening crash west of Lincoln that killed one person and injured seven others. Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says a passenger in a Ford Focus who was ejected from the car and later died at the hospital has been identified as 18-year-old Ali Alasady of Lincoln.
Houchin says another passenger in the car was also ejected and remains hospitalized and is in stable condition. A person in the other car is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, but Houchin says that crash could have been much worse.
“I know we talk about this, but we stress so hard, wear your seatbelts,” Houchin says. “You know you can never guarantee what would have happened if they had them on but in looking at the statistics here, everybody that had them on are doing okay.”
Houchin says the driver of the Ford Focus blew through a stop sign at NW 84th and West ‘O’ Street and slammed into a Nissan Kicks carrying five people. “The Ford Focus didn’t stop at all, didn’t hit its brakes or do anything,” Houchin says. “It just went through at a pretty good clip of speed.”
Houchin says they also believe that there’s a possibility of marijuana use by the driver of the Ford Focus. He says all eight people involved in the crash are between 18-22 years of age.
