No. 25 Nebraska baseball bolted out to an eight-run lead and held on to defeat Creighton, 8-4, Tuesday at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha. The victory finishes a three-game sweep by the Cornhuskers of the Bluejays, the first time since 2015 NU took all three games from its in-state rival.

Nebraska took control of the game early. Case Sanderson drove in a run with a single and Drew Grego followed with an RBI double to make it 2-0 Huskers in the top of the first. After Nebraska scored on an error in the second, Grego reignited the Huskers’ offense in the fifth with a two-run double to left. Joshua Overbeek followed with an RBI single to push the lead to 6-0, and a two-run single by Mac Moyer boosted the Huskers’ edge to 8-0.

Creighton started to rally in the bottom of the sixth against Cooper Katskee, who had been good through five innings, but began to tire. Teddy Deters hammered a three-run homer to get the Bluejays on the board and end Kastkee’s night. Later in the inning, a bases-loaded walk to Rocco Gump pulled Creighton to within four.

But the back end of the Nebraska bullpen made sure the Bluejays drew no closer. Drew Harrahill threw a shutout seventh and eighth innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out two. J’Shawn Unger pitched a one-two-three ninth, striking out one. Katskee (6-2) earned the win, allowing three earned runs and five hits in 5.2 innings pitched. Grego led the NU offense, hitting 3-for-5 with three RBI and three doubles.

Nebraska now begins its final series of the regular season Thursday at Minnesota. Pregame coverage begins at 5:30 p.m., with first pitch at 6 p.m. on KLIN.
