Nebraska baseball blasted Iowa, 10-0, in a game shortened to eight innings by the mercy rule Friday at Hawks Field in Lincoln.
Cornhuskers’ (35-14, 18-7 Big Ten) pitching was dominant, as Carson Jasa (9-2) threw seven shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out nine. Connor Clark and Tucker Timmerman combined to pitch a shutout eighth inning.
Meanwhile, the Nebraska bats struck early and often. Joshua Overbeek got NU on the board in the second with an RBI double. Case Sanderson drove in a run in the third with an RBI single. A sacrifice fly by Will Jesske pushed the lead to 3-0 in the fifth. Then in the sixth, a two-run home run by Trey Fikes boosted the lead to 5-0. In the seventh, Overbeek drove in two with a single to right. A Rhett Stokes bunt single drove in a run to push the lead to 8-0. Then in the eighth, home runs by Max Buettenback and Dylan Carey pushed the lead to 10 and brought on the run-rule.
Mac Moyer, Overbeek, Carey and Fikes all had two hits each to pace the Nebraska offense. Overbeek drove in three runs as well.
The Huskers will look to clinch the series against Iowa (29-19, 12-13 Big Ten) Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m., with pregame coverage at 1:30 p.m. on KLIN.
