A 65-year-old Cass County man was killed Wednesday afternoon after a pickup crash that followed what authorities described as a domestic disturbance near Elmwood. According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, a 63-year-old woman contacted 911 and reported that her husband, identified as Kevin LaPage, was aggressively pursuing her along Highway 1.
She told dispatchers that LaPage repeatedly struck her vehicle with his and attempted to force her off the road. Investigators say the situation escalated moments later when LaPage’s truck left the highway, crossed into a nearby field, and slammed into an outbuilding.
When deputies and Nebraska State Patrol troopers arrived at the crash scene, they found the damaged vehicle inside the building. Authorities deployed a drone to assess the situation and observed the driver still inside the truck appearing injured. Deputies later approached the vehicle and confirmed LaPage had died at the scene.
Officials say the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
