A stolen handgun from Lancaster County has turned up hundreds of miles away, along with a significant drug bust. LSO Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says a .25 caliber handgun stolen from an unlocked vehicle in Waverly in March was found over the weekend in Iowa.
“On Sunday officers from Sioux City Police Police Department conducted a traffic stop, ultimately locating the stolen handgun, one pound of meth, one pound of marijuana and one pound of cocaine,” says LSO Chief Deputy Ben Houchin.
“The situation highlights how quickly unsecured items can end up in the wrong hands,” Houchin says. “Please lock your vehicle even if it’s parked in the driveway, remove all valuables, especially handguns.”
He says this could’ve turned out a lot worse than what it did. “This individual was dealing in a large quantity of drugs and he didn’t have the handgun for good reasons.” Houchin doesn’t believe Medina was the one who stole the gun in Waverly. He says it’s possible the gun was obtained through trading.
Medina was booked in the Woodbury County Jail and is facing multiple drug charges as well as trafficking stolen weapons.
