The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for Lincoln and much of eastern Nebraska from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday, with temperatures expected to dip into the low-to-mid 30s.
Lead Meteorologist Clint Aegerter says overnight conditions will be favorable for frost formation.
“We’re looking at a low around 35 in Lincoln,” Aegerter said. “Not a true freeze, but probably some frost, and it’s close enough that you’ll want to take precautions with your plants.”
The advisory warns that frost could damage or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left unprotected.
Officials recommend covering plants or bringing them indoors, and Aegerter says residents may also want to disconnect garden hoses as a precaution.
Conditions are expected to improve quickly, with overnight lows warming into the upper 40s Saturday night and staying milder into early next week. Another potential cool-down could arrive midweek, though temperatures are not expected to drop as low.
