A stretch of O Street will close Thursday for the free Project NO Street Block Party, where adults 21 and older will be allowed to purchase alcohol from participating venues and enjoy it outdoors within the event area.

Lincoln Transportation and Utilities says O Street between 13th and 16th streets will close beginning at 6 a.m. Thursday, April 30, for event setup and is scheduled to reopen at 10 a.m. Friday, May 1. The block party runs from 6 to 10:30 p.m., with entry screening and wristband distribution beginning at 5 p.m.

The event coincides with ongoing improvements in the Boehmer Street Music District and will feature live performances from local acts AM/FM and Church of Blues, featuring Jadyn Cree Olesen and Josh Hoyer.

Free parking will be available during the event at the University Square Garage (101 N. 14th Street) and Eagle Garage (1330 “N” Street).

Attendees may bring lawn chairs, but bags and chairs will be inspected. No coolers, outside alcohol or glass containers will be allowed. Those with wristbands may purchase alcohol at venues in the fenced area and enjoy beverages outdoors from 6 to 10:30 p.m. only. All alcohol must be discarded or returned to a bar by 10:30 p.m.

The city says sidewalks in the event area will remain open for business access during the day. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and watch for traffic signage around the closure.
