Nebraska State Senator Dan McKeon’s arraignment has been delayed after a judge rejected his attempt to enter a no-contest plea without appearing in court Wednesday.
The registered Republican lawmaker from Amherst had tried to file the plea using a waiver, which the judge said is not allowed, according to the Nebraska Examiner. He is charged with disturbing the peace following an alleged groping incident at a post-session party in May. McKeon is set to appear in Lancaster County court on Dec. 17 at 9:00 a.m.
The judge granted a motion for continuance on behalf of the state, telling McKeon he must appear in-person for proceedings to continue.
Lancaster County Attorney Pat Condon charged McKeon with disturbing the peace Monday, a downgrade from a previous citation for public indecency.
McKeon has declined calls to resign from follow lawmakers and Governor Jim Pillen and maintains his innocence.
