The Lancaster County Election Commission says a member of a malicious conspiracy theorist group recorded a video of a young man on a skateboard returning his ballot and shared it on social media on Saturday.
Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen says they erroneously implied he was doing something wrong. “We reviewed our surveillance footage of the ballot drop box and were able to identify the voter when we retrieved his ballot.”
He says they have video of a young man returning his ballot for his first Presidential Election. He took a selfie to memorialize this important milestone in his life. “It is shameful and un-American to intimidate and threaten anyone for exercising their right to vote” Wiltgen says.
“We were concerned about the voter’s safety when we realized commentors on the social media posts were threatening to harm him.” Wiltgen says they contacted the Lincoln Police Department and they reached out to the young voter.
“It is unfortunate this group is spreading false and misleading information to deceive the public and undermine confidence in our elections.” Wiltgen says. “They should remove the post and apologize immediately.”
Individuals who have questions should contact the Election Commissioner’s Office at (402) 441-7311.
