Lincoln Police rushed to Ross Dress for Less at the Gateway Mall Saturday night on a report of an active shooter. Public Information Manager Erika Thomas tells KLIN News officers learned that the caller was still in the area and that the call was determined to be a prank.
“Police arrested 18-year-old Bahaa Safaa for making that false call,” Thomas says. “When he was in custody on the scene he kicked an officer and spit on two officers.” Safaa was taken to the Lancaster County Jail and cited for obstructing government operations and false reporting.
He was booked for third-degree assault on a police officer and assault on a police officer with body fluid. There is no ongoing threat to the public.
