Eastern Nebraska is in for a sharp change in weather, with gusty winds, much colder temperatures and a possible first freeze Saturday morning. “A little taste of winter here, just a little appetizer,” National Weather Service meteorologist Taylor Nicolaisen tells KLIN News.
He says wind gusts could reach 30 to 40 miles per hour Friday night into Saturday morning as colder air moves into the region. Friday’s high temperatures will only reach the 50s, a big change from the 90-degree weather seen just a week ago. Nicolaisen says skies will clear and winds will diminish Friday night, allowing temperatures to drop sharply.
Lincoln is forecast to reach 31 degrees Saturday morning, with similar temperatures expected across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. Nicolaisen warns the freeze could damage plants and urges residents to cover sensitive vegetation or bring potted plants indoors.
Temperatures should rebound quickly, with highs approaching 70 degrees Sunday and reaching the mid-70s by Tuesday.
