Lincoln Parks and Recreation has canceled Friday evening’s free tree giveaway at Union Plaza because of inclement weather. The Hub & Soul concert scheduled for the amphitheater has also been canceled.
The city had planned to distribute 200 trees beginning at 5:30 p.m. Parks Operations Coordinator Mike Comstock said a new distribution date will be announced. “We appreciate the community’s patience and will share updates as soon as the event is rescheduled,” Comstock said.
The giveaway was intended to help restore and diversify Lincoln’s tree canopy. Residents who planned to pick up a tree Friday should wait for the city to announce the new date and distribution details.
