Lincoln firefighters contained a Tuesday evening fire at a southeast Lincoln apartment building to one room. LFR crews were sent to the Lodge Apartments near 48th and Old Cheney around 5:30 after receiving a report of smoke in a hallway from an unknown source.
Battalion Chief Bob Watton told KLIN’s Chris Lofgreen that firefighters initially saw no signs of a fire. “The first crew arrived on location, had no smoke from the outside,” Watton says. “But once they made entry, they realized they did have a fire in one of the apartments on the second floor.”
Firefighters stretched a hose line into the building. “The firefighters were able to contain it to one room,” Watton says. “Got everybody evacuated from all three floors.” No injuries were reported to residents or firefighters.
LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says caused by an electrical failure involving a lamp. She says the lamp had fallen over, breaking the bulb, but it remained powered. The resulting heat ignited some clothing and plastic items nearby.
