Lincoln Police arrested a 25-year-old man early Thursday after a violent bicycle robbery near 23rd and ‘N’ Streets. Public Information Manager Erika Thomas says the investigation determined a 40-year-old Lincoln man had been walking his bicycle when a group of 3-4 men approached him around 12:30 a.m.
“He was pushed to the ground and one of the men got the 2025 black Lectric e-bike valued at $2,400 and rode off as the group left.” Thomas says the victim was found with blood on his face and hands.
Police later spotted the stolen e-bike near 27th and E Streets being ridden by 25-year-old Austin Mabrey of Lincoln. “He rode on the bike trail and through Zoo property, before ditching the bike in the area of 27th and B streets and running off on foot,” Thomas says.
With the assistance of a Lincoln Police K-9 unit, officers found Mabrey hiding in brush near 27th and ‘A’ Streets. He was taken to a hospital for treatment before being booked into the Lancaster County Jail.
Mabrey faces charges of robbery, obstructing a peace officer, and second-degree criminal trespassing.
