Funeral services were held Monday morning in Crete for Police Chief Gary Young, who died July 27th at the age of 62. The service was held at Ag Hall at Tuxedo Park in Crete and was attended by family, friends and law enforcement officials from several agencies.
The funeral ended around 11:00 and the procession came up 14th Street in southwest Lincoln. Cassie Steen is a nurse in Lincoln and works with Young’s wife. She was among those who lined the procession route near Southwest High School.
“I’ve worked with her for seven years now and just out here showing my support for her during this time,” Steen tells KLIN News. “He was caring, loving, always smiling. He did everything for his grandkids and for his kids,” Steen says. “He was one hundred percent a family man.”
Young, who served the Crete Police Department for 41 years, including the last four as police chief, was laid to rest at Lincoln Memorial cemetery.
