A quick-thinking neighbor is being credited with helping rescue a resident from a smoke-filled apartment during a fire Saturday afternoon in southeast Lincoln. LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says crews responded just after 4:10 p.m. to the Brookside Apartments off Tallgrass Parkway.
Lierman says there were reports that someone was trapped inside a smoke-filled main-floor apartment. Before firefighters arrived, a neighbor broke through a sliding glass door and helped move the resident into the hallway.
Firefighters quickly extinguished a small kitchen fire and transported one person to a local hospital. The extent of injuries is not known. Lincoln Fire and Rescue says the fire was contained to the single apartment unit, and neighboring apartments remain livable.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
