Warren Swain, the Voice of the Huskers from 1996 to 2002, passed away at 79 years of age in Sarasota, Fla. His passing was first reported by Jerry Ratcliffe, a longtime Virginia reporter, on his website JerryRatcliffe.com. Swain was the voice of the Cavaliers before coming to call games at NU.
Swain took over as the lead broadcaster for Nebraska football and men’s basketball on the then-Pinnacle Sports Network and KLIN upon the formation of the PSN for the 1996 football and 1996-97 men’s basketball seasons. Swain broadcasted Nebraska’s last football national championship in 1997, last football conference championship in 1999 and a run to the NCAA men’s basketball tournament in 1998. He came to Nebraska after serving as the lead broadcaster at Virginia from 1984-1995. Swain was a Pigsah, Iowa, native.
After being replaced as Husker Voice by Jim Rose, Swain moved on to broadcasting Ohio and South Dakota before retiring to Florida.
