A new state-approved teacher preparation program is now accepting applications in Nebraska. Nebraska Teachers of Tomorrow launched this week as an alternative pathway for aspiring educators looking to enter the classroom.
The online program is designed for working adults, career changers, recent college graduates, and others interested in pursuing a teaching career. Teachers of Tomorrow CEO Dr. Heath Morrison says the program comes at a critical time as Nebraska schools continue to face staffing challenges.
According to the Nebraska Department of Education’s latest teacher vacancy survey, nearly 490 teaching positions statewide were unfilled by fully qualified personnel at the start of the 2025-26 school year, with another 111 positions left vacant. The greatest need areas include special education, elementary education, career education, science, and mathematics.
“Nebraska needs strong, well-prepared teachers, and expanding access to state-approved preparation is one of the most important ways we can support schools and students,” Morrison says. He also says expanding access to teacher preparation programs can help schools build a stronger pipeline of qualified educators.
The program offers flexible online coursework, certification preparation, and classroom-readiness training designed to fit busy schedules. Nebraska Teachers of Tomorrow is authorized by the Nebraska Department of Education and joins a national network that has helped prepare more than 90,000 educators over the past two decades.
