Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen is offering final reminders to voters ahead of Tuesday’s statewide primary election. “Voters should remember this is a partisan primary election,” Wiltgen said.

“This allows Nebraska’s political parties to nominate their candidates for the Nov. 3 general election. Voters will be issued a ballot for the party with which they are registered.” Wiltgen says nonpartisan voters will receive a ballot containing only nonpartisan races. They may also choose an additional partisan ballot page.

“The Nebraska Republican and Legal Marijuana NOW parties did not open their elections to nonpartisan voters,” Wiltgen said. “The only races that will appear on their nonpartisan-partisan ballot page will be the House of Representatives and Senate races.”

Wiltgen also said Monday, May 11, is the final day to vote in person or obtain an early voting ballot from the Election Commissioner’s Office. The office will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. An agent may obtain an early voting ballot for another voter until 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Wiltgen told KLIN News all early voting ballots must be returned to the Election Commissioner’s Office no later than 8 p.m. on Election Day. Anyone with an early voting ballot should drop it off at one of the Election Commissioner’s official ballot drop box locations:

  • Election Commission Building, 601 N. 46th St.
  • Anderson Branch Library, 3635 Touzalin Ave.
  • Eiseley Branch Library, 1530 Superior St.
  • Gere Branch Library, 2400 S. 56th St.
  • Walt Branch Library, 6701 S. 14th St.

Wiltgen said voters will need to bring an acceptable photo ID, such as a driver’s license, a Nebraska-issued state ID card or another approved form of identification before being issued a ballot.

“The identification must have the voter’s name and photo,” Wiltgen said. “It may be expired and does not need to include an address. Voters who are unable to obtain an ID because of a religious objection to being photographed, disability, illness or lack of required documentation may complete a Reasonable Impediment Certification in lieu of presenting an ID.”
