Nebraska State Patrol troopers arrested a Ceresco man early Thursday morning after a high-speed pursuit through Lincoln and northern Lancaster County overnight.  NSP Spokesman Cody Thomas says it all started around 8:30 Wednesday night on Interstate 80 in Lincoln.

“When a trooper had a BMW Sedan come up behind his at really fast speeds, 95 in a 65 mph zone,” Thomas says. The trooper attempted a traffic stop but Thomas says the driver accelerated and fled eastbound, reaching speeds of more than 160 miles per hour.

Thomas says the driver exited I-80 onto 56th Street and headed south toward Lincoln. Troopers eventually discontinued the chase because of public safety concerns. “We did have another trooper in the area who saw that same vehicle on Cornhusker a few minutes later between 70th and 56th.”

Thomas says the driver fled from another traffic stop, but the driver fled again, turning north onto 56th Street.  “Where we had another trooper who was able to deploy stop sticks to slow that vehicle down,” Thomas says.

The driver eventually stopped near Highway 77 and Agnew Road in northern Lancaster County before running from the vehicle on foot. Thomas says troopers, along with several assisting agencies, searched the area but were unable to find the suspect immediately.

“But they did find identifying information inside the vehicle and that made it pretty easy to go to driver’s home and make the arrest when he returned home around 1:30 a.m.” 20-year-old Nathanael Campbell  was booked into the Lancaster County Jail on charges including flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving second offense, obstructing a peace officer and multiple traffic violations.
