Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews responded to a house fire near 67th and Colby around 11:00 Wednesday morning. LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman told KLIN News that a neighbor noticed the front porch was on fire and called 911.

“Crews made a strong attack on the front of the home and were able to keep most of the damage to the exterior,” Lierman said.  She added that much of the home’s siding melted, with total damage estimated at $100,000. A truck parked in the driveway was also damaged.

Lierman says a carelessly discarded cigarette sparked the fire.  She says home video surveillance confirms the cigarette was flicked into and area where there was mulch and dry leaves.  The cigarette smoldered for quite some time before the fire started.
