A Colorado man was arrested Sunday afternoon following a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 80 in central Nebraska.

The Nebraska State Patrol said troopers were alerted to a reckless driver heading eastbound near Lexington. A trooper spotted the vehicle around 2:25 p.m. as it was traveling more than 100 mph and using the shoulder to pass other vehicles.

The driver did not stop when a trooper attempted a traffic stop, prompting a pursuit that continued east toward Kearney. Authorities said the vehicle also avoided an initial attempt to deploy stop sticks.

The pursuit ended near Kearney when troopers successfully used stop sticks to disable the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody without further incident.

30-year-old Donald Carpenter of Julesburg, Colorado, was arrested on suspicion of flight to avoid arrest, reckless driving, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and having an open alcohol container. He was booked into the Dawson County Jail.

Buffalo County deputies and Kearney police assisted in the arrest.
