LSO Begins ‘Put the Phone Away or Pay’ Enforcement Campaign

By Tom Stanton Apr 8, 2025 | 6:01 AM

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department is taking part in the national ‘Put the Phone Away or Pay’ mobilization effort, which is designed to reduce the number of crashes caused by distracted drivers.

LSO will increase the number of deputies who will be working during the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. now through April 14.  The additional deputies will patrol in marked patrol cars and concentrate their efforts on distracted driving violations, which specifically include the use of cell phones.

Overtime for the additional deputies working during the crackdown will be paid through a mini-grant funded by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
