Parks and Recreation staff will conduct controlled burning of cedar piles Thursday, February 20, and Friday, February 21, in Wilderness Park near South 14th Street and Rokeby Road. The red trail between markers 63 and 66 will be closed until 11 a.m. Saturday, February 22.
Community members are advised to avoid the area during this project. Aaron Druery, Parks and Recreation Greenways District Supervisor, said that controlled burns are a tool to manage large areas of native plants and grasses, reduce wildfire risk, and enhance wildlife habitat. Parks staff monitor weather and air quality conditions to ensure safe burns.
