An inmate from Lancaster County Department of Corrections died at a hospital in Lincoln on Monday, Nov. 4.
62-year-old Melvin Botts had been in custody since October 16, and was transferred to the hospital on October 18, 2024, where he remained until his death. While the cause of death has yet to be determined, Mr. Botts was being treated for a chronic medical condition.
He was serving a sentence until November 4, 2024, and awaiting trial on a separate case.
As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of Lancaster County Department of Corrections, a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
