Lancaster County residents will have a chance to get some hazardous items out of their homes during two drive-thru household hazardous waste collection events .  The first one will be held this Friday from 2-6 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church  375 S. Lincoln St. in Malcolm.

On Saturday the City of Lincoln will take items from 9:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Star City Shores located at 4375 S. 33rd Ct.   Ralph Martin is Senior Environmental Health Specialist and tells KLIN News there is a wide variety of items they will accept.

“Pesticides, lawn and garden chemicals, household cleaning products, paint thinners and stains, oil-based paint, pool cleaning chemicals, rodent poison and charcoal starter fluids.”  He also says mixed or old gasoline, brake or power steering fluids, vape products, and items containing mercury such as CFLs and thermometers will also be collected.

Martin says prohibited items include latex paint, motor oil, fertilizers, gas grill cylinders, medicines and pharmaceutical waste, electronics, guns,  ammunition and batteries.
