LPD Sounding The Alarm Over Water Gun Social Media Trend

Lincoln Police are expressing concern over a social media trend involving high school seniors.  “It appears several high school seniors throughout the city are participating in a game called “Senior Assassins” in which they hunt each other with water guns,” says Captain Todd Kocian.

He says just after 10:00 Wednesday morning officers were sent to Railyard area on a report of male with a handgun. Officers ultimately determined it was a water gun.  The following day they received a report of someone running around with a handgun at Starbucks at 28th and Pine Lake Road.

Officers ultimately determined it was a splatter gun. “Our goal is to make sure everyone stays safe. Some water and splatter guns look very similar to real weapons, which can create unnecessary alarm in the community and possibly lead to a more dangerous situation,” Kocian says.

” These calls have already prompted significant police responses, affecting the efficient use of city resources.”   LPD is encouraging parents to talk with their kids about the possible consequences of this game so everyone can have a fun and memorable senior year.
