Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews rushed to a house fire near 20th and Old Cheney just after 2:00 Thursday morning.  Public Information Officer MJ Lierman tells KLIN News the fire started near the grill.

“A grill cover had caught fire earlier in the night and the homeowners thought they had it extinguished and had it laying next to the house.”  Lierman says it smoldered for several hours and eventually caught the outside of the house on fire.

She says the fire was put out in about three minutes, but smoke from the fire made it’s way inside the house.  There is also water damage to the kitchen and basement.  Total damage is estimated at $50,000 and the family was relocated by the Red Cross.
