Many Lincoln residents got a clear reminder Thursday morning that the Guardians of Freedom Air Show is coming to town this weekend. The U-S Navy Blue Angels flew over the city as they arrived at the Nebraska Air National Guard base.
Nearly 300,000 are expected for the free two day event. It will run from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. This will be the first appearance for the Blue Angels in Lincoln since 2016. It will be a homecoming for Captain Jackson Streiff. The Omaha native is the pilot of the cargo aircraft known as “Fat Albert.”
“It’s kind of a full circle moment,” Streiff tells KLIN News. “I went to the University of Nebraska, graduated in 2014 and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps shortly thereafter.” Streiff says he’s looking forward to putting on a great show for his home state. “I think it’s going to be an incredible airshow. Nebraska’s always been a big supporter of the military so I’m expecting big things and expecting it to be a really fun air show.
