Confirmed on social media on Monday, Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District representative Don Bacon’s email services have been breached by Chinese hackers.
I thank the FBI for notifying me that the CCP hacked into my personal and campaign emails from May 15th to June 16th of this year. The CCP hackers utilized a vulnerability in the Microsoft software, and this was not due to “user error.” (1/2)

Bacon is the first known lawmaker to have their email account hacked in an alleged Chinese espionage campaign, but it’s reported that hackers have also breached the unclassified email accounts of senior State Department and Commerce Department officials.
From May 16th to June 16th, Bacon confirmed, hackers had access to his personal campaign emails.
Danielle Jensen, Bacon’s communications manger, told KLIN news, “They did get information on political strategy like campaign and fundraising calls… He did receive an email from MSN telling him that his account may have been hacked and to change his password, which he did.”
“He is outraged that they would do this. He feels that he possibly may be targeted because of his support for Taiwan. He’s also been very vocal about calling out the CCP for how they treat the Uyghurs and the Tibetans,” Jensen added.
