Heat Wave Keeping Lincoln Animal Control Officers Busy

By Tom Stanton Jul 27, 2023 | 3:35 PM

Lincoln’s Animal Control Manager is urging dog owners to leave their pets at home during the extreme heat.  Steve Beal tells KLIN they have responded to 62 calls of animals being left in cars since June 1.

“People are quick to see that somebody has left an animal in their car and their quick to call us,” Beal says.  “If we have to, we will use forcible entry if we feel that an animal is in distress.”  Beal  says most of the time they are able to track down the owner inside a nearby business.

Of the 62 calls they received animal control officers issued 10 citations for animal neglect.  Beal says none of the animals required medical attention.  He urges pet owners to keep their dogs at home unless they are taking them to the veterinarian or someone other appointment.
