Wedding Delay…Her Divorce Isn’t Finalized

Jun 14, 2023 | 7:26 AM

For many of us who have been married a second time, we know that you have to have a finalized divorce before you can remarry. If you don’t, it could be considered bigamy, or at the very least, not legal or legit.

Krista Norman, a Canadian woman, had been separated from her soon-to-be-ex for over 2 years and she is ready to move on. And quite frankly, so is her still-husband. The divorce is uncontested, so what’s the hang-up?

COVID!

I shit you not, COVID has caused delays in the Canadian courts. Supposedly, they have another issue, not enough judges either. Because COVID caused a delay in the courts and the lack of judges, the delays are up to a year. And because of this, she is still married. The worst part, she is planning on getting married again, but can’t because of the COVID delay.

But wait, it gets worse, she could do a wedding where she and her soon-to-be 2nd husband go through the motions and sign the wedding papers after the divorce is finalized, but this is a destination wedding in Cuba and they won’t allow a wedding of any kind without proof that she is legally divorced.

She can tell the story better than I can:
