A Short Ode to Layne Staley

Alice In Chains is my absolute favorite band  of all time. I know, you’d think it’s the Foo Fighters, but they’re a close second. I’m a grunge kid through and through.

April 5th is a sad day in music history as this year marks 29 years without Kurt Cobain of Nirvana,  and now 21 years without Layne Staley of Alice In Chains. While Layne wasn’t found for two weeks after he died, it is believed that he died on April 5th, 2002. So, a sad day, 8 years apart.

I tried all day to think of something to write about today, and instead I found an interview that Revolver did with AIC bassist Mike Inez when the band was going out in support of Black Gives Way to Blue, the first album the band put out in 2009 after the passing of Layne. What I love most in this article, is Mike talks about the writing of my favorite AIC record, Jar of Flies, with Layne, as well as that he associates my favorite AIC song, Nutshell, most now with Layne. Hit me right in the feels on that one.

Anywho, here’s the whole article for you.
