I’m sorry, but finding ways to save money on gas has been a HUGE topic of conversation. It ebbs and flows from finding gas hacks, to buying Electric Vehicles. When gas in Nebraska is nearing $5, we have to think about how much driving we are doing. (I mentioned this last week, here).
I did some research and found someone on Facebook who has discussed how electric cars are great, but don’t cost that much less to operate in all cases, then there is charging time. But it is worth the headache of not paying a gas bill that will run you $90 per fill-up.
As I mentioned, people are talking about hacks to get around the high cost of gas, or the high cost of buying an EV. This one guy kind of got around the high cost of buying an EV, the cost of buying gas and the long charging times. This is NOT something I would suggest because it is ILLEGAL. However, you have to give it to this guy for ingenuity.
But here is the part that he really fucked up, not that he stole a Walmart electric shopping cart, he tried to steal an orange construction barrel.
As you can see the Highway Patrol found the humor in this situation:
“You never know what you will see on the interstate. .Around 5am this morning, Senior Trooper Rob Caudill and the Clarksville police department responded to I-265 in Clark County for a subject riding an electric cart that was pushing a construction barrel. The Walmart cart was recovered and returned to Walmart. The male subject was transported to Louisville Kentucky with charges pending the prosecutor’s review. As a reminder, unauthorized vehicles are not allowed on the interstate… and slower vehicles need to use the right hand lane.A vehicle that travels at a speed less than the established maximum shall travel in the right lanes to provide for better flow of traffic on the interstate highways.”
(I love the shopping cart emojis…which I didn’t know existed. )
Well, expected results followed.
The police caught up with him and busted him, not because he was driving a shopping cart on the Interstate, but because the cart was stolen…and so was the barrel. But that wasn’t the Indiana Highway Patrol’s big takeaway…it had to do with impeding traffic and how dangerous that is.
While that is true, the theft was a secondary. I think that is because even the police are effected by gas prices.
