It’s been a few days since Taylor Hawkins, drummer for the Foo Fighters, passed away at the age of 50. I wanted to sit on it for a few days before I put this blog together, but I can’t say that it feels any better to need to do it. I will not speculate in any way, shape, or form on Taylor’s cause of death. There’s enough sick gossip hounds out there, and when we hear officially what happened then I will discuss it. All I want to talk about is how loved the Foo Fighters and Taylor are. There have been so many amazing tributes to Taylor from all kinds of musicians, drum companies, and even Dr. Jill Biden. I’ve compiled a just few of them, and even a few from people that I thought were just touching words, no matter the source. I would love to include even more, because there were SO MANY, but that would probably be overkill on my part. There is a very cool video on Facebook from Music Never Stopped that I can’t post because it’s not mine from the venue the Foos were supposed to play at the night Taylor died of candles all over the stage while My Hero plays. You should check that out too.
“Long live Taylor Hawkins. He enriched my life as a dear friend & fellow musician. He brought so much joy to the world of music, he will be forever missed. Our deepest condolences to Alison, Shane, Annabelle & Everleigh Hawkins & the entire Foo Fighters family.”

I believe the reason the death of a rock star like Taylor Hawkins can seem to hit so hard is that, for many of us, the music world is where we seek refuge from pain. So when the source of pain IS the music world, there’s no place else to go for relief.
Does that make sense?

Taylor Hawkins was such an incredibly positive source of music, energy and love, and a true artist to his very core…there are simply no words to adequately express just how much he will be missed by all – including Alex, myself & entire Rush family. 💔 https://t.co/u8anYMZZXk

I got to spend a little time with #TaylorHawkins when @foofighters were on a West Wing episode. Such a sweet, sweet man. I always loved watching him play. That immersion. That abandon. That joy. Irreplaceable. Love, love, love to his dear family and friends.

Before Foo Fighters played “Everlong” on March 20, which would end up being Taylor Hawkins’ last performance, Dave Grohl told the crowd: “I don’t like to say goodbye. I know that we’ll always come back.”https://t.co/357gMZLdyB

One of a few drummers our drummer Anton Fig would leave his kit to watch work when Foo Fighters appeared on Late Show. A true R&R giant. This is a very sad day. RIP. pic.twitter.com/1wUQKr9mqi

The last thing I’ll add is from what ended up being Taylor’s last concert just a couple days before he died. It was very well known that Taylor loved classic rock, and in particular Queen. So, here’s video of the last time Taylor performed Somebody to Love.
