I hate to say this, but I’m bad Dad.
I know what you are thinking, I went out for milk and smokes and didn’t come back.
That isn’t it.
I have 2 kids who are under 15 and both have phones (and no, that isn’t it, either), but I have no clue what their phone numbers are. If I didn’t have them programmed in my phone, I would have no clue how to get ahold of them, unless I came to them or they came to me.
I felt like a total jerk, when my wife asked me for their numbers and I had to say, “hang on, let me look them up”.
THEN, I realized that I wasn’t alone in not memorizing phone numbers. I asked other parents and most of them said, “I don’t let me kids have phones” or “Good parents don’t let them have phones”…
…but the ONE parent (who didn’t passive-aggressively tell me that I was a piece of shit) whose kids have phones, said that they had not memorized their kids phone numbers, either.
Whew!
Then I saw this…31% of people a have NO phone numbers memorized. Now I don’t feel so bad.
Now, I will admit, I have my wife’s phone number memorized…but that is it, and that puts me in the 38% of the world who has 1-2 phone numbers memorized. Pretty good company, right?
I have you have a better track record than many do, but if you are in the 6%, you have every right to be smug and condescending.
