Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Director Pat Lopez reported one more death from COVID-19 on Tuesday, a person in their 20’s. There have been 12 COVID related deaths in the month of September.
The COVID-19 risk dial remained in the mid-orange range, means the risk is high for the spread of the virus. “Fortunately, we continue to see improvements in our case numbers and positivity rate, but at the same time the number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized remains extremely high, straining out hospital capacity,” Lopez says.
She says hospitalizations are still high but the 7 day average of new cases is declining. Lopez continues to urged residents to get vaccinated and continue to wear masks.
She says 73 percent of residents 16 years of age and older are now fully vaccinated. The number is 59 percent when residents younger than than 16 are included. Lopez says around 16% of the population remains unvaccinated due to being too young and nearly 21% due to choice or circumstances.
